Woman killed, two children hurt as car crashes into power pole in Cooloongup in Perth's south

A woman is dead and two children are in hospital after their car crashed in Perth's southern suburbs last night.

Police said the hatchback the trio was travelling in crashed into a power pole off Willmott Drive in Cooloongup about 11pm.

The 32-year-old female driver died at the scene.

An 11-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy were taken to Perth Children's Hospital.

A WA Police spokesman described their injuries as minor.

Major Crash detectives are investigating the accident and have urged anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers.

With just over a week remaining in the year, WA has recorded its highest number of road fatalities since 2016.

According to the Road Safety Commission, 169 people have died on WA roads in 2022, marking a six-year high.

This figure compares to 162 people last year, and 191 people in 2016.

The crash in Cooloongup left 59 homes and businesses without power on Friday morning.

Western Power said it expected electricity would be restored around 11am.
