A young woman who was floating in her inflatable ring at sea was brutally attacked by a shark, leaving a trail of blood.
Barry Brown was swimming at Wylie Bay in Esperance, Australia when he saw the woman being dragged out to sea.
He said she was with his brothers nervously looking at her as she drifted further and further out about half an hour before the attack happened, ABC News reported.
Barry said: "She just seemed to be getting deeper and deeper and deeper. "Then we actually saw a figure under the [pool ring] and we weren't quite sure whether it was a dolphin or what it was."
He said the woman was swimming calmly on her back towards the shore with her hand on her side as the super predator circled underneath, Daily Star reports.
He added: "The shark actually circled the [pool ring] a couple of times and then took back off into the blue."
He then said he was terrified the shark would return and as he went into the water to help the woman he saw a trail of blood.
As he met her around 15 to 20 metres out, he claimed that he picked her up and ran as fast as he could to where his girlfriend was standing to meet them.
He said: "We wrapped her up in a towel, in one motion, chucked her in the back of a car and then straight off to the hospital."
Barry said the shark bite was not a "10 out of 10, but it was one to still make you think anything could happen here".
The woman remained conscious throughout the ordeal and her rescuer said she kept "a very cool head".
Today, it was reported that she was in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital.
