The father of a victim in the 2018 Parkland mass shooting said he is "not surprised" that some of late daughter's classmates have endured a second mass shooting at Florida State University.
"America is broken," Fred Guttenberg wrote in an X post shared Thursday. "My daughter Jaime was murdered in the Parkland school shooting. Many of her friends who were lucky enough to survive that shooting went on to attend FSU."
Jaime was just 14 years old when she was gunned down while running away from the shooter, Nikolas Cruz. He killed 14 students and three staff members and injured 17 others in one of the deadliest school shootings in the U.S.
Guttenberg wrote that some of his daughter's former classmates were in FSU's student union when the shooting began Thursday, marking the second school shooting they've experienced.
"As a father, all I ever wanted after the Parkland shooting was to help our children be safe. Sadly, because of the many people who refuse to do the right things about reducing gun violence, I am not surprised by what happened today," Guttenberg added.

Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old political science student at FSU, was injured during his arrest in connection with Thursday's shooting. Authorities alleged he used a firearm belonging to his mother, a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff's Office, to carry out the attack.
