Woman dies after two car smash in the Scottish Borders as police launch probe

A woman from Somerset has tragically died after being involved in a two car crash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A698 Kelso to Hawick road at around 12.50pm on Saturday April 2.

The road was closed near to Heiton after a white Volkswagen Up! collided with a black Volvo XC40.

The driver of the VW, 61-year-old Patricia Kim Common from the Yeovil area, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The Volvo motorist, 44, was taken to the Borders General Hospital where medics described his injuries as non-life threatening.

Sergeant Mark Banner, from Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash who saw anything or has dash-cam footage that could assist with our enquiries to please come forward.

“If you can assist our investigation please contact us on 101, quoting incident 1549 of Saturday, 2 April, 2022.”
