Woman bemused as date dumps her over dinner - because she doesn't like beans

Beans on toast is a staple meal in many UK households, but the protein-packed pulses aren't loved by everyone - and apparently can be quite divisive.

One woman on TikTok has revealed her stance on beans was such a problem for one man she was dating that he decided he couldn't bear to date her any longer and dumped her in the middle of a restaurant.

Christina, who posts under the username @sunshinesparkleshoes, claimed she went on a date with a man who asked her if she wanted to split an appetiser, and when she said yes, he decided to order the nachos with a bean dip - and was stunned when Christina said she wasn't a fan.

In her video, she said: "I literally went on a date and he ordered a bean dip. I said I don't like beans so when the waitress came to take our order he said we weren't getting food. Now all I can think about is why he wanted beans so much and why it was beans or nothing at all."

The woman, from the US, then uploaded a second video in which she told the full story through a re-enactment, in which she revealed just how bizarre the man's response was.

In the re-enactment, Christina used a filter to give herself a beard to act as her date, and said: "I'm a little bit hungry, do you want to split an appetiser?"

When Christina said yes, her date suggested they get the bean dip, to which Christina said: "Well, I don't really like beans, so if we're splitting it, then maybe we should look at some of the other dips that come with the taco chips."

Then the waitress arrived to take their order, and Christina's date suddenly backtracked on his offer, telling the waitress they would no longer be eating.

He said: "We're not getting food anymore. You can take the menus back."

Christina was baffled by the man's response, and initially suggested they get two separate appetisers instead - but the man was adamant in his decision.

He told her: "No, you don't like the bean dip so we just won't get food."

To which she said: "Okay, but I'm hungry so I'm going to call the waitress back and order for myself. If you want, you can still get the bean dip."

In a third video, Christina admitted she called the man out on his "rude" behaviour and told him he was being "weird" by demanding she order the food he wants without considering her preferences.

And in an even weirder twist, the man later messaged her to say he enjoyed their date - and confessed he doesn't even like beans himself!

He wrote: "Hey, just want you to know, I'm not that into beans either. Thanks for meeting up tonight, you were so fun."

Commenters on Christina's videos were equally baffled by the situation, but many of them pointed out the "red flags" in the man's actions.

One person said: "You had a lucky escape there. Glad the red flag showed up early for you before things got serious."

While another added: "I'm sorry, what? I feel he just wanted to test how much control he could have over you."

And a third said: "You dodged a bullet with that one."
