The nation will mourn Queen Elizabeth II today at Her Majesty's state funeral, which has been declared a bank holiday.
The holiday will mark the final day of the period of national mourning across the UK and will allow people to pay their respects to the monarch.
Thousands of people are expected to be at the funeral which gets underway on Monday at 11am, while millions more will be watching all over the world.
King Charles declared September 19 as an additional national bank holiday to allow the UK to pay their final respects.
Some may wonder whether the bank holiday for the Queen's funeral will take place every year to mark the historic event and to allow people to continue to commemorate the Queen.
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming bank holiday on Monday 19 September.
Will the bank holiday be held every year?
It is unlikely that there will be a bank holiday every year to commemorate the Queen's funeral moving forward, according to the government.
The official UK Government website states: "There are currently no plans for an annual holiday."
There was no bank holiday declared for the funeral of the Queen's father, King George VI, in 1952.
It is also still not known whether there will be a bank holiday when King Charles III is eventually coronated. The UK Government says this will be announced closer to the time.
Who will get the bank holiday off?
The bank holiday will apply across the UK, meaning that Scotland will be included. The bank holiday for the the Queen's funeral will operate in the same way as other bank holidays
Schools will be off on the bank holiday. As for workers, it will likely depend on their employers - who are being asked to "respond sensitively" to requests for time off.
Government guidance states: "[time off] is a matter for discussion between individuals and their employer.
"There is no statutory entitlement to time off for bank holidays, but employers may include bank holidays as part of a worker’s leave entitlement."
