Though the government abandoned EPC targets for private landlords in autumn 2023, this extended cold spell has put the spotlight back on London's poorly insulated housing stock.
While awarding a home's EPC – energy performance certificate – is hardly an exact science, it does paint a broad picture of building's ability to retain heat.
To achieve a B rating, a home must be insulated to current building regulations, from cavity walls and lofts to double glazed windows. A best-in-class A rating generally requires a form of renewable energy generation, like solar panels.
Victorian homes, meanwhile, average a D rating in England and Wales.
Currently there are no minimum EPC ratings for new or existing homes, so the onus is on buyers to check energy certification. With that in mind, we've hand-picked ten homes for sale with solid credentials.
