Why these wellness retreats in Scotland are some of the best in the UK

A COUPLE of wellness retreats in Scotland have been named among the best in the UK.

The Guardian looked at everything from mountain retreats in places like Monmouthshire to yoga vacations in the Lake District, to find the top places to unwind.

Introducing the list, the newspaper said that the best way to get your new year off to a "positive start" is to book a "restorative break" away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Sophie Hellyer, a cold-water swimmer and yoga teacher from Cornwall, is leading two three-day winter retreats in Marine Troon, a "beautiful" hotel on the Ayrshire coast.

This is designed to "tap into the rejuvenating effects of the great outdoors" through coastal walks and wild swimming as well as yoga.

The retreat is open to all abilities and is part of a series of Adventure Weekends planned throughout the year.

Wild Roots Guiding, which was founded by mountain leader Anna Danby, specialises in "wellbeing adventures" in the Scottish Highlands.

The Wild Mountain retreat focuses more on walking, exploring the surrounding hills and mountains, and learning some outdoor skills.
