A COUPLE of wellness retreats in Scotland have been named among the best in the UK.
The Guardian looked at everything from mountain retreats in places like Monmouthshire to yoga vacations in the Lake District, to find the top places to unwind.
Introducing the list, the newspaper said that the best way to get your new year off to a "positive start" is to book a "restorative break" away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Sophie Hellyer, a cold-water swimmer and yoga teacher from Cornwall, is leading two three-day winter retreats in Marine Troon, a "beautiful" hotel on the Ayrshire coast.
This is designed to "tap into the rejuvenating effects of the great outdoors" through coastal walks and wild swimming as well as yoga.
The retreat is open to all abilities and is part of a series of Adventure Weekends planned throughout the year.

Wild Roots Guiding, which was founded by mountain leader Anna Danby, specialises in "wellbeing adventures" in the Scottish Highlands.

However, for those who prefer not to camp, visitors can now stay at the Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, a remote escape on the Courrour estate which can only be reached by train and foot.
The Wild Yoga autumn retreat features guided walking, yoga and nature-based mindfulness. Lake swimming, journalling and sketching are also available.
The Wild Mountain retreat focuses more on walking, exploring the surrounding hills and mountains, and learning some outdoor skills.
