Infamous internet personality Andrew Tate has clashed with Piers Morgan after appearing on an instalment of Piers Morgan: Uncensored to address his ban from social media sites.
In August 2022, Tate was banned from an array of platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Twitch, over a series of misogynistic comments that he had made.
Tate's extreme and dangerous opinions, which include that women are a "man's property" and that rape survivors must "bear responsibility" for their attacks, had been going viral on social media, resulting in calls for him to be removed from the platforms.
As his interview with Morgan got underway, the presenter grilled Tate about some of his remarks about women, including his previous comments that 19-year-old women are more attractive than 25-year-old women.
Piers accused him of being a misogynist, saying: "You are encouraging a mindset about 25-year-old women that makes them sound out to be infinitely less desirable than 18- or 19-year-olds and [you are saying] they've had too much sex to be taken in a respectable way."
But Tate refused to step down from his position, responding: "Well firstly, even if that was the case, that would not be misogyny. That's not misogyny because it's not anti-women.
"I'm ageist perhaps, but misogynistic, absolutely not."
As he continues to stand by his controversial comments, here's where Andrew Tate is from and where he lives now.
Where is Andrew Tate from?
Andrew Tate was born in Washington DC to parents Emory and Eileen Tate, but grew up in the UK.
His father was an American chess player from Chicago while his mother is believed to have been a catering assistant from the UK.
As a child, Tate moved to England and he and his two siblings were raised by their mother in Luton.
In an archived Twitter threat, Tate previously opened up about his upbringing.
He said: "I was raised by a single mother in England. I wouldn't call my mother particularly nice or soft. In fact, my mother was mean and hard.
“I usually saw my dad about once a year when he would visit and I remember one time they had a massive argument.”
In 2016, Tate rose to fame in the UK when he appeared on the 17th series of Big Brother.
However, he was quickly kicked off the show after a video that appeared to show him beating a woman with a belt emerged.
He defended the video, claiming that the act was consensual.
Where does Andrew Tate live now?
In 2017, Tate left the UK and moved to Bucharest in Romania, where he currently resides.
In a since-deleted YouTube video explaining the motivation behind his move, Tate admitted that "40% of the reason" was because of relaxed laws on sexual assault.
He said: “I’m not a rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want. I like being free."
In April 2022 his home was raided by Romanian police after the US embassy received a tip-off that a 21-year-old American woman was being held there against her will.
Tate was brought in for questioning alongside his brother but they were both later released and have denied any wrongdoing.
