What do a builder, a Cancer star sign and the number 39 have in common? The Lottery’s ‘luckiest’ people

Builders have been named the “luckiest” profession of 2022 by the National Lottery following its round-up of millionaire winners from the last year. On average, at least one millionaire was made a day during 2022.

Now, Camelot, the organisers of the National Lottery, has revealed some of the luckiest people of the last year. It gave 375 people prizes of £1 million or more across its games, including Euromillions, Lotto and its UK Millionaire Maker raffle.

As well as looking at the luckiest professions, National Lottery declared that Cancer was the luckiest star sign and that number 39 was the luckiest number. At the opposite end, the number eight was declared to be the least lucky, having only been drawn five times.

While a retired teacher celebrated her £3.6 million win not with a bang and a glass of fizz but with a glass of water and a sit-down. It is in sharp contrast to a factory worker who, after almost driving past his usual shop, won £2 million on a scratchcard and celebrated by letting out a scream in the street.
