Ensuring water safety at Balloch Park on Loch Lomond in the wake of last year's tragic deaths will be a key issue for councillors elected later this week.
Following the tragedies on the loch last summer where three people drowned, West Dunbartonshire council officers were asked to investigate the feasibility of creating a public outdoor swimming pool but this was put on hold because it was anticipated that it would cost more than £3 million to develop.
Despite the “unfortunate news” councillors agreed that the local authority should engage with a professional consultant to deliver a water safety policy which would cost around £30,000.

As well as Balloch and Balloch Park, the ward also covers the northern parts of the Vale of Leven closest to Loch Lomond and the rural area east of the loch, including Gartocharn, Jamestown, Levenvale, Mill of Haldane, Rosshead and Tullichewan.
