We'll all pay for Boris Johnson's arrogance

When it comes to Boris Johnson, the last week has made painfully clear the joke is not funny anymore - he is a charlatan, a criminal and a threat to the United Kingdom he pretends to love.

Our corrupt Prime Minister is not afraid to burn any institution or any of his colleagues’ careers in order to protect his own skin.

His constant chaos and failures provide cover to an SNP Government which is failing Scotland.

Every day he stays in office is a day his lies and failures help recruit for the campaign to break up our country.

It touches every part of our politics because when the SNP drop the ball on the cost of living crisis or fail to properly fund and staff our NHS they hide behind the failing Tories.

The real judge of a person's character is what they do when what is right clashes with what is personally convenient for them.

Well, the three or four people who were still wondering about Boris Johnson's character got a definitive answer last week.

Invited to - finally - do the right thing, after months of lying and deflecting we were instead treated to a round-up of all the reasons he is unfit to lead the United Kingdom.

Just minutes after a mealy-mouthed half-apology escaped his mouth on Tuesday, he was behind the scenes reportedly blaming everyone from the press to the bishops for his personal failings.

Scientists say when a person feels cornered a fight or flight reaction kicks in to help them try and escape danger.

From Boris Johnson last week we saw both - he tried to pick a fight with the very idea of decency in public life and when that didn't work for him he got on a flight to India.

But watching the Prime Minister harrumph and sulk as journalists quizzed him on his foreign trip drove home what is at stake.

The world is watching on as Boris Johnson puts personal gain ahead of what is right.

It is why Douglas Ross' painful excuse that he has reversed his call for Boris to resign because of the situation in Ukraine rings so hollow.

We demonstrate the best of our values to the world through building a vibrant, passionate and rules-based democracy.

Our messages of defiance to Putin and his criminal regime ring clearer because our politicians face consequences for defying the laws they write.

Undermining that principle doesn't help Ukrainians in their struggle to protect their freedoms, it just cheapens ours.

Nowhere now in Scotland is this damage clearer than in the damage Boris Johnson is doing to the United Kingdom.

We're all paying the price for Boris Johnson's arrogance.

Last week I wrote to Scottish Tory MPs - I said they faced a choice.

They could be on the side of protecting the UK, or Boris Johnson's side.

They could side with the people who want to protect our public services in Scotland or with our corrupt Prime Minister.

They could choose to do what is right for the United Kingdom or follow Boris Johnson's example and stick up for their own political careers.

The silence has been deafening.

Elections on May 5th are a chance to send them a message - and I know Scotland will take that chance.

Injury Time

Barely a month goes past now without another tragic case of a former footballer being diagnosed with a brain injury.

What began as a trickle of cases has become a flood of high profile diagnoses and tragic deaths.

So yesterday (SUN) I was proud to join my Labour colleague Michael Marra MSP outside Tannadice to highlight the #InjuryTime campaign he is running with affected families, the GMB Trade Union, and PFA Scotland, the players’ union

Research shows that players are up to five times more likely to develop diseases like dementia than the general population.

Behind the high-profile cases will be dozens more unreported, where families are struggling without support.

There is a generation of football heroes—who were injured at work entertaining us— who need our support now.

We've seen progress - like banning heading balls in training for kids – but elsewhere progress has been too slow,

So the campaign has three simple asks of the Scottish Government and football authorities: classify brain injury in football as an industrial injury, fund research into preventative support, and get the experts together to get an action plan to deal with brain injury and dementia in football.

Because without action the beautiful game could be forever tainted by an ugly scandal.

Cost of failure

Sarwar with 'cost of SNP failure' receipt (Handout)

I know what you're thinking...' that is a big receipt'.

It has to be when you're listing the £3.2billion in taxpayers' money the Scottish Government has wasted.

That is the equivalent of a £1200 bill for every family in Scotland. So a big receipt for a big issue - the SNP is making you pay for their failure.
