Warehouse decimated after being ravaged by huge blaze

Footage from inside a warehouse shows the devastation caused by a blaze overnight.

Thick smoke could be seen from across St Helens on the evening of June 26 as a fire broke out on an industrial estate. Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called to Manor Street at around 8.15pm to tackle the blaze.

Pictures and video from inside the warehouse shows the extent of the damage as almost everything inside the building appears to be burnt. Firefighters remained at the scene this morning, June 27.

Crews arrived to find a large single storey warehouse of 20 x 30 metres well alight and began to fight the fire with a main branch hose. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance were initially sent to the scene but this was soon stepped up to seven fire engines. Smoke could be seen billowing from the fire as crews used compressed air foam to protect nearby buildings.

This afternoon, the roof of the warehouse appears all but gone, as heavy fire damage covers any remaining material. Road closures remain in place on Manor Street and Jackson Street today and people are being asked to avoid the area. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is still advising residents and nearby businesses to keep their windows and doors shut.

The fire service said anyone with pre-existing medical conditions should keep treatment nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111. Footage taken at the scene on Sunday shows the scale of the fire as crews worked through the night to bring it under control.

In an update today, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews began to damp down the area overnight with the aerial appliance and main branch hoses still in use at 12.30am. Damping down and checking for hot spots has continued throughout the night with high pressure hose reel jets.

"The aerial appliance was no longer required after around 3.30am and damping down is continuing at the site currently. Please avoid the area.

"Residents and businesses nearby should continue to keep doors and windows shut, keep treatment for pre-existing conditions nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111."
