The new incarnation of the Volvo V90 is ‘an exercise in quality and taste’
The Volvo V90 was launched in 2016, but in its new incarnation it’s a quite different beast, said HonestJohn.co.uk. Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, the T6 Recharge Ultimate is more than just a fast estate. Thanks to a larger 18.8kWh battery (up from 11.6kWh), it can now deliver an electric-only range of up to 52.2miles with zero emissions, and can return 353mpg.
At 143bhp, the new V90’s electric motor is 65% more powerful, giving a total bhp of 345, said Top Gear Magazine. It’s quick, but not hair-raisingly so, with a 0-62mph time of 5.5secs and a top speed of 112mph. Real-world electric range is up from 20 miles to around 40, plenty for the average daily commute. It’s settled and comfortable, with good body control, great damping and weighty, accurate steering.
The Ultimate spec has all the bells and whistles: air suspension, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and a Bowers & Wilkins stereo, said The Daily Telegraph. “It’s an exercise in quality and taste”, with wool-blend upholstery, open-pore wood and high-quality plastics. The portrait touchscreen is a bit hit and miss, with functions buried in sub-menus, but it’s a competent family car, with a generous 551-litre boot. Price: from about £70,000.
