For those who are already having vitamin D deficiency, this picture can make your heart skip a beat. An X-ray image of a hand of a vitamin D deficient person is doing rounds on social media and has created panic among netizens.
"Calcium hyperproficiency is a rare complication of vitamin D deficiency, where excess calcium from bone resorption forms complex structures resembling primary teeth. Neoformed teeth grow on different bones, such as this patient's hand, causing fractures and joint dysfunction," tweets @Valdevia_Art.
The image looks like an X-ray of a palm with small tooth formation on the bones, which the Twitter account has claimed to be due to vitamin D levels in the body.
However, in another tweet, it has been confirmed that it is photoshop work.
Many people have reacted to the image mostly due to the severity of the vitamin D deficiency and the complications that arise.
"As a person that has vitamin D deficiency, you just scared me," says a Twitter user.
"Please say you are joking. cause I have a vitamin d deficiency and am not ready to actually take my medication regularly," says another.
Another user gave an extra effort to call a spade a spade. "I am next to certain that this is a fake image. How likely is it that ALL of those teeth from different parts of the hand would be in perfect lateral direction on the X-ray? And you see only fully formed and perfect teeth, no malformed or partially formed ones," the user wrote.
