Vandals 'senselessly take joy' from families after targeting park

Vandals have been slammed for "senselessly taking joy from local families".

Earlier this week, St Helens Council took to social media to share "disheartening" photographs of vandalism at the Queen's Park play area. The images show parts of the grass area torn up and damage to nearby equipment.

They wrote: "Incredibly disheartening and frustrating to see Queen's Park play area vandalised like this. Senselessly taking joy from local families and funds from stretched council services.

"We're making the area safe and will be replacing equipment. The incident has been reported to the police."

Residents have reacted in fury to the damage at their local park as one person commented: "Disgusting, it was a lovely well-kept park, spent many happy hours there". Another wrote that it was !absolutely disgusting."

Many people on social media called for "cameras" to protect the local spaces. Last month, the ECHO reported on an "antisocial behaviour week of action" in St Helens. Both police and St Helens Council outreach teams held several events around the borough in an attempt to make inroads to the community and address concerns.
