If you cast your mind back to the first time you went to the Trafford Centre, you may recall the feeling of being overwhelmingly lost. And while New Jersey-born musician BC Camplight has lived in Manchester for a few years now, he’s clearly still not au fait with the place.
“Honestly, how do you even leave the Trafford Centre,” he pleads on a video posted to his Twitter page, which came captioned ‘Still here. Will update. Send warm clothes.’ You can see from the background that he’s trying to navigate the shopping centre’s upper level car park, with the sign for John Lewis emerging at one point behind him.
“Is it even possible? I’ve been walking around for 40 minutes, there’s no way in, there’s no way out. No entrance, no exit. There’s cars here they’ve come from somewhere. I feel like we’re at the nexus of the f**king universe.

“It’s like Hotel California. You can check out anytime you like, but your Uber’s going to cancel because you can’t get the f**k in. It’s not as catchy.”
The video came with a swathe of similar experiences from followers and fans. Said one: “Once parked my car there, went shopping, came back to find my car had been stolen…took me an hour to realise it was in an adjacent car park which looked EXACTLY the f’ing same!!”
Added another: “The Trafford Centre is like a life sized board game. You can’t go anywhere without throwing a six to start.” The Manchester Evening News reached out to the Trafford Centre for comment, but it declined to do so.
BC, aka Brian Christinzio, was born in Wenoah, New Jersey, but moved to Manchester in 2012 on the recommendation of a fan on social media. He arrived in the city with no apartment, but has since fallen in love with the city.
He told The Quietus in 2015: “Manchester saved me. The city has been a huge influence on me. I haven't had a bad day since I've been in Manchester.” This may have changed since his recent shopping trip.
