Jessica Simpson reveals why she has been drinking 'snake sperm'

Jessica Simpson has revealed she swears by a drink containing an unconventional ingredient - snake sperm.

The singer, 44, can be seen in a video posted to Instagram taking a sip out of what looked like a medicine bottle. When questioned by other people in the room about she was drinking, she revealed that it was snake sperm, which she was recommended to help keep her vocal cords in tip-top condition.

“It's this Chinese herb thing,” she said. “And I'm like, 'I don't know.' My vocal coach told me to drink it. And they google the ingredient, and it’s snake sperm.”

When probed further as to whether it was a type of tea, the I Wanna Love You Forever hit-maker claimed it tasted like “honey”.

Adding: "If you want a good vocal, you've got to drink snake sperm."

Audible laughter could be heard in response to this.

Her 6.3m followers were clearly tickled by the revelation too, with many rushing to share their thoughts.

“She needs her own show again - side note: I believe it,” one wrote, while another added: “Hahaha, that’s the Jess we (your fans) know and love.”

“You gots ta do what ya gots ta do,” quipped a third.

Simpson will need to stock up as she recently performed her first live show in 15 years at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, where she debuted four new songs.

Days later, she followed it up with the release her new EP, Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1.

Reflecting on her return to music, she said on social media: “I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free. His eyes are on the sparrow and I know He watches me.

“God told me I needed to feel the fear and do it anyway as I’m moving into my truth while embracing the beauty of uncertainty.”

The “uncertainty” she mentions would appear to allude to her splitting from husband Eric Johnson.

She announced in January that she and the former NFL player were calling time on their marriage after 10 years.

The former couple share children Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, five.
