Urgent warning over popular Lidl snack that is ‘unsafe’ for some people to eat

Lidl Ireland customers are being warned about a popular snack that is 'unsafe' for some people to eat.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a warning about Snaktastic Gluten-Free Sea Salt Lentil Bites, which is sold by the supermarket.

A batch of the supposedly gluten-free product has been found to contain undeclared gluten.

It has been mislabeled as ‘gluten free’ on the front of the packet.

The discovery has prompted an urgent allergen alert from the FSAI amid concerns about potential health risks.

Anyone with gluten-related disorders, such as celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, is being urged to avoid consuming the affected product.

Gluten, a protein composite found in wheat, barley, and rye, can cause severe adverse reactions in those with gluten-related conditions.

A spokesperson for the FSAI said: “The above batch of Snaktastic gluten-free sea salt lentil bites has been misdeclared as gluten free. This product is labelled as gluten-free but contains gluten, this may make the batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten.”

The affected packets are 113g, have the batch code 3139 and best before date of 13/02/2024.
