Urgent recall issued for popular snack sold in Aldi over fears it may be 'unsafe' to eat

An urgent food recall notice has been issued for a popular protein bar sold in Aldi stores over concerns that the product may be 'unsafe' for some people with allergies.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) published a notice about various Harvest Morn Protein Bars on Friday. According to the notice, there are “incorrectly declared allergens” on their labels, which may make them “unsafe” to eat for some people to eat.

The notice from the FSAI reads: "Allergens in all batches and best before dates of Harvest Morn Protein Bars may not be emphasised on the label. “This may make the products unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten (barley), peanuts, soybeans, and milk.

“The implicated bars were sold in Aldi stores.” The affected products include the flavours: Birthday Cake, Peanut Butter, Cookie Dough, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Peanut and Caramel and Chocolate Salted Caramel.

All batches and best before dates are impacted.

The alert comes just days after consumers were urged to bin raw chicken products issued by Western Brand and sold by Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Tesco and BWG owned shops have since expired. But they may still be in Irish homes that have chosen to freeze the products.

Last week, consumers were urged to return popular vegan food products sold in Dublin over Listeria fears. The recall was Jay & Joy vegan products, which are reportedly at Noms, an organic food store on North Circular Road in Dublin.

It is understood that recall notices will be displayed at the point-of-sale, and customers who purchased these products can return their items for a refund.
