Ulrika Jonsson shares on why she never told police about being date raped at 19

Ulrika Jonsson has told why she never went to the police after being raped in 1986.

The TV host, 52, who wrote about being date raped at the age of 19 in her 2002 autobiography Honest, has that she did not report the "terrifying" rape to the police as the "notion of date rape did not exist in those days."

She also admitted that she is unsure if she would report the crime today, as she worries that law enforcement do not pursue rape allegations as the CPS are chasing statistics rather than justice for rape victims.

Writing in The Sun, the mother-of-four told how her generation were "led to believe that they could not be raped by someone known to them" and added that date rape "never existed."

Bravely detailing when she was forced to have sex as a 19-year-old, she told: "I was in a hotel room with someone known to me very briefly and, despite my protestations, I was forced to endure intercourse against my will. It was pretty terrifying."

Ulrika, who has always refused to name her attacker, then explained that when her autobiography came out she was quizzed on why she did not report the crime.

Explaining her reasoning, she said it was because she feared the accusations would not be taken seriously.

Adding that she worries viewpoints have not changed much, she then revealed that she is "doubtful" she would go forward now, as she fears the case would never be pushed forwards by the CPS.

Ulrika fears that "It’s all about targets. It’s all about successes and meeting targets" - which she says has been confirmed following Victims' Commissioner Dame Vera Baird's report into the “catastrophic” decline in rape prosecutions over the past three years.

The reports states that the CPS is chasing better statistics and higher success rates, thereby making it harder to achieve the standards of evidence required by them to get a case to court - which means thousands of victims and complainants are being denied justice.

Ulrika broke down in tears as she relived the attack when appearing on Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2009.

She said: "Afterwards I just lay there. No, no, honestly, I just lay there. He said we should go to the cinema and I said, 'I can't go'.

"I don't remember what I said but I stayed and he left. I actually don't think he realised what he'd done."
