A video released by Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry captured the opening remarks exchanged between the two foreign ministers at a meeting in Guangzhou, China. This marks the first visit by a Ukrainian foreign minister since the war began in 2022.
China's Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the relationship with Ukraine, highlighting the growth in trade between the two nations. Despite the complex international and regional situations, he noted that their relations have continued to develop normally.
China, known for its close ties with Russia, has advocated for a resolution to the conflict that considers the interests of both parties. This stance has put China at odds with Ukraine, as well as Western European countries and the United States, who are calling for a Russian withdrawal as a prerequisite for any settlement.
China did not participate in a recent peace conference in Switzerland that excluded Russia from the discussions.
The Ukrainian foreign minister expressed his intention to engage in extensive and detailed negotiations to seek common ground for peace in Ukraine. He stressed the need to achieve a just and stable peace, acknowledging that China could play a significant role in the process.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson affirmed China's support for the international community in building consensus and finding practical political solutions to the crisis.
The Ukrainian foreign minister's visit to China commenced on Tuesday and is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
