Ukraine announced on Thursday that it is currently working to identify the type of missile that Russia launched at the country, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that has lasted for over 1,000 days.

The foreign ministry spokesperson for Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, stated that expert analysis is being awaited to determine the specific characteristics of the missile that Russia fired, which exhibited traits consistent with those of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

Earlier in the day, Ukraine's air force accused Russia of targeting the city of Dnipro with an ICBM. However, a Western official, speaking at a summit of Asian nations' defense ministers in Laos, contradicted this claim by stating that the missile launched by Russia was a ballistic missile, but not an ICBM. The reason for the discrepancy between the descriptions provided by the Ukrainian military and the Western official remains unclear.

Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that the missile strike serves as evidence that Russia is not actively seeking peace in the region. On the contrary, he asserted that Russia is actively working to escalate the conflict and expand the scope of the war.

The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with tensions running high between Ukraine and Russia. The international community is closely monitoring the developments and awaiting further updates on the nature of the missile launched by Russia.
