Brits are bracing for a blitz of snow and plummeting temperatures over coming weeks as February could see a last blast of winter weather.
Forecasters warn there’s a chance temperatures could drop as low as -3C in some parts of the UK in coming days.
There’s also a possibility of snow and “blizzard conditions” with chances of a few inches of snow falling in higher altitudes in Scotland.
The Met Office predicted that Dalwhinnie, Scotland, could see the brunt of the Arctic weather waking up to the -3C temperatures this morning.
Through yesterday into the night the country saw showers, some of which were wintry in the north of England and Scotland.
They cleared later on and winds eased which means much of the UK will wake up to frost on Monday.
Monday itself will see a cold, bright start, with cloudy skies with patchy rain and drizzle sweeping eastwards
The day will become windier as it progresses and will see milder temperatures from the west.
Moving into Tuesday, the snow will have disappeared in England, but could remain in parts of Scotland.
The Met Office predicts moving into Tuesday through to Thursday, rain will heavily affect northwestern areas and spread towards the southeast toward the middle of the week.
Thursday onwards, the country’s likely to see colder conditions with the chance of wintry showers and more wind in the north.
More rain will likely see much of the remaining snow in Scotland melt.
Looking ahead towards the middle fo the month, the north can expect a mixture of wintry showers and wind, interspersed with rain.
Whereas the rest of the country can expect far more dry periods with plenty of sunshine.
From Friday, the northern parts of England and Scotland can expect wintry showers, which will become lighter and less frequent as the day goes on.
The rest of the UK is expected to be dry and sunny.
Into the weekend, gales and heavy rain could make a return for the northwest and west.
Again, most of the rest of the country will be dominated by a patch of high pressure.
Heading towards mid and late February, temperatures are likely to be close to average, but there is the potential for cold snaps especially in northern and eastern parts.
