Uber will offer cruises on the Seine river and a Champagne tasting tour during the upcoming Olympics in Paris. Uber stock was slightly higher Wednesday.
The ride-hailing company will offer "Uber Cruises" free of charge in Paris from July 12 to Aug. 3, according to a Reuters report. The company said it is responding to what its expects will be heightened demand from the 15 million visitors expected for the summer games.
Uber officials also told Reuters that the company will make "significant" investments in driver incentives and discounts for riders during The Games.
On the stock market today, Uber stock was up 1% at 64.25 in morning trades, with slightly lower than usual trading volume.
Champagne Tours
The Champagne tours will be available though a new offering called Uber Bubbles. The bookable tour will run on Fridays and Saturdays from June through mid-August.
App users in Paris can book a 10 a.m. pickup from an Uber Bubbles-branded for the tour.
The trip will cost 200 euros total for four guests, according to the company blog post.
Uber expects to have a record 40,000 drivers on its platform during the Olympics in Paris, according to Reuters.
The company has offered boat-based rides in other cities before, including through a partnership in London.
Uber Stock: Lagging S&P 500 In 2024
After gaining 149% last year, Uber stock is off a more shaky start in 2024.
Shares have gained just under 5% year-to-date, compared to a 10.6% gain for the broader S&P 500.
Shares jumped out to big gains in the first months of the year. Uber announced plans for its first-ever stock buyback in February. But Uber stock slipped after its first quarter report showed a surprise loss.
