Tyson Fury has opened up about his wife Paris Fury and their six children’s reaction to learning he would be coming out of retirement.
The boxing great announced he would be stepping back from the sport earlier this year, but is now set to return to face off in a trilogy fight with Derek Chirsora.
Tyson appeared on Friday morning’s instalment of Good Morning Britain from his home to speak with hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway about the upcoming fight and his decision to come out of retirement.
The TV presenters asked the champ what his childhood sweetheart Paris had thought about him being at home when he announced his retirement.
Paris had been thrilled when her husband hung up his gloves, with plenty more family time expected but Tyson said he found quitting hard.
He said: “I think as a family it was great stuff for ten weeks. Everyone was really happy. I was doing all the school runs, dog walks, the rubbish. All that sort of stuff. All the home jobs that need doing.
“But then it just gets like, ‘Well, when’s dad going to go back to work again? Is he just going to stay here and do nothing forever?’
“I think they were glad to get rid of me, to be fair. I got a little bit grumpy and a little bit agitated towards the end of my retirement and I thought, do you know what, I've got to get back to work.”
The couple - who have been together since they were 14 - welcomed her sixth child, daughter Athena, last year.
They have six children; Venezuela, 12, Prince John James, nine, Prince Tyson II, four, Valencia, three, and baby Athena, who was born prematurely.
Tyson continued: “The interesting factor is when you’ve done something for so long and you’re so accustomed to a routine and all of a sudden that's taken away from you, what does the individual do with their life anymore?
“I find this with a lot of sports stars. They train their whole life at whatever it is, from a little kid to an adult, and all of a sudden that’s not there anymore.
“It’s like you’re lost. It’s like you’ve been dropped into the Atlantic Ocean without a boat or a paddle or anything.
“It’s alright saying you can try different hobbies. I tried golf and I tried clay pigeon shooting. I tried off-roading, but nothing gave me the buzz or the fulfilment when I train for a fight or have a fight.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
