Two Ayrshire super-schools have been forced to close today after freezing conditions hit the water supply.
Primary and secondary pupils across the region have been sent home early with closures coming in South and East Ayrshire.
The Barony Campus in Cumnock has been shut down this afternoon with temperatures plummeting to -7 degrees.
The huge campus emptied over a staged closure with classes in Hillside School the first to stop at 1.30pm, followed by Lochnorris Primary School and SLC and finally Robert Burns Academy and SLC which shut at 2.30pm.
Cheery Trees Early Childhood Centre also closed.
East Ayrshire Council set up a crisis live blog on their website to update parents on closures.
An update at 1.40pm today read: "The water supply at The Barony Campus is now running low and the Campus will need to close early."
In Prestwick, the new Prestwick North Educational Campus closed early with parents and carers notified.
Council chiefs confirmed that Glenburn Primary School, St Ninian’s Primary School and Prestwick North Early Years Centre had to close early due to an issue with the water supply.
A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: "Due to issues with the water supply, we have taken the decision to close the campus early today.
"Parents & Carers have been informed and collection arrangements are underway.
"Children who can’t be collected early and those who receive school transport, will remain in the campus under supervision until 3pm.
"We will provide a further update on arrangements for tomorrow (Wednesday, December 14)."
Earlier in the day, Logan Primary was forced shut in the morning at Auchinleck Primary before lunchtime.
A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Council said: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that Scottish Water advised this morning that there was a water supply issue within the Cumnock area. Scottish Water has been on site all day and is continuing to work on the issue.
"Due to the water supply issues, Logan Primary and Early Childhood Centre had to close this morning, Auchinleck Primary and Early Childhood Centre closed at lunchtime and a phased closure of The Barony Campus began at 1.30pm."
