The first transgender woman on Channel 4’s Naked Attraction has revealed she is living in a Cambuslang homeless unit.
Amira Nadeem hoped that appearing on the TV show would help educate people about changing sex.
However, the journey she has been on continues to be a struggle and this week she told us that she had to leave her own home.
The 22-year-old said: “I am currently living in a unit in Cambuslang as my previous home was broken into and trashed, so I’m hoping to get a house soon.
“But I have been homeless before in the past. I’ve been in a violent relationship and all I want is to be happy.”
And although Amira revealed she has received lots of hate from online trolls since appearing on the show, she refuses to let them get to her.
She said: “The majority of people have been so lovely and supportive and sent me nice messages. The good outweighs the bad but I just don’t get why some people can be so horrible.
“I’ve never done anything to them, so I don’t know why they have to say such horrible things.
“I’m just living the life I want to. I’ve been through a tough time in my life and just deserve to be happy.”
And she added: “I’ve never forgotten where I’ve came from.
“Everyone should have a chance at life and that’s what I’m trying to do.
“I’ve come from nothing and just want to build a future for myself – which is exactly what I am going to do.”
Amira also said that she received a lot of comments about the way things ended with the contestant she picked for the date, Ste.
She said: “The cameras made it look like I totally blew him off but that wasn’t the case.
“Prior to this, I asked him if he wanted to go out with me and he said we had to focus on our careers, so I took that as a no and moved on. We are still really good friends and I wish him nothing but the best.”
Amira added: “Some people were saying things about my appearance.
“I am natural, I haven’t had anything done except my main op – this is who I am.
“I am a happier person when I brush them off.
“I want to inspire people to just be themselves.”
And Amira continued: “I absolutely loved being on TV.
“Me and my mum watched it while eating a curry and chips.
“There were some bits where she was like, ‘Amira!’
“But she knows that’s just what I am like – no filter. I loved being on TV and definitely want to do it again, I’m hoping to get an agent this week and get the ball rolling.
“I want to be the first trans person on Love Island. Watch this space!”
