An ad from the Canberra Liberals searching for an Andrew Barr lookalike was pursued by an agency working for the party.
The party was searching for the Chief Minister lookalike to participate in a paid television ad campaign later this month.
A Canberra Liberals spokesman issued a statement saying it was "time to change the channel".
"It's time for something different. That Labor ACT Show is up to season 23. Canberrans are switching off as it's time to change the channel to something fresh and new," a Liberal spokesman said.
"We can't afford another spin-off, we need a brand new Canberra Liberals government starring Elizabeth Lee as Chief Minister."
The call for the lookalike went out through modelling agency Victoria's Models on behalf of local video production company Screencraft.
"We are doing an open casting for an Andrew Barr lookalike for a paid ad campaign," an email to prospective models states.
"If you know somebody who looks similar to Andrew Barr (image attached) please have them email clear image (no sunglasses or hat to worn) with their full name and age to bookings@victoriasmodels.com.au."
It is understood the ad search was undertaken independently by a contractor working with the Liberals.
A Screencraft spokesperson said on Tuesday it was unable to comment on projects that were under way.
"We work with a range of clients, from a range of different areas and those relationships are confidential," the spokesperson said.
Mr Barr described the ad as "creepy".
"It's weird," he said.
