Madeleine White, the TikTok influencer known for her vintage dress flips and iconic Get Ready With Me’s, has found herself in a bit of a pickle with her pyjama brand, See You Tomorrow. And trust me, it’s not the cozy kind of pickle you’d want in your jammies.
Seriously, Madeleine’s second launch of her brand this month has already seen major backlash from TikTokers who are calling out a major mess up with her pyjama line.
Here’s everything that’s happened so far:
See You Tomorrow’s first launch
Let’s take it back to the beginning. Maddie was over the moon when she launched her pyjama line back in May. “It was always a dream starting my own business,” she told Business Insider. But things quickly spiralled out of control, turning her dream into a nightmare.
Fans were quick to voice their disappointment over the pricing of her products. One Redditor bluntly said, “$145 for 100% polyester is absolutely insane though.” Ouch!
Another customer chimed in with, “She should get backlash for this, because choosing fast fashion materials but selling it at a high-end price is wild.” The criticism was swift and relentless, leaving Maddie scrambling to respond.
It wasn’t just the price tags that had fans upset; the quality of the garments was also under fire. Many felt that White had lost touch with her original fan base and forgotten her thrifty roots. The backlash was palpable as customers decided that See You Tomorrow didn’t live up to its promise of offering affordable yet quality sleepwear.
Realising she had made a significant misstep, Maddie went into damage control mode and took the website down. “We went back to the drawing board after a couple of days,” she admitted to BI. This decision was crucial in regaining some trust from her audience.
Fast forward seven months, and See You Tomorrow relaunched with new designs and improved pricing. Maddie explained her renewed vision: “I decided to bet on myself and put my money where my mouth is and to create the product that I wanted to make.”
It seemed like a promising fresh start, but little did she know that more drama awaited.
Madeleine White vs PlzDontBuyThat
Just when we thought we’d seen a new chapter, enter PlzDon’tBuyThat, a TikTok creator who ordered around $500 USD worth of See You Tomorrow products. This eagle-eyed reviewer pointed out several issues with the new line, including unfinished stitching and fraying edges.
PlzDon’tBuyThat also raised concerns about the predominant use of viscose and rayon, labelling these materials as “toxic” due to their production processes.
But the real kicker came with the Late Night Chemise dress. Priced at $148 USD, it was marketed as 92 per cent silk and 8 per cent spandex on the website. However, PlzDon’tBuyThat showed viewers that it was actually labelled as 95 per cent viscose and 5 per cent elastane in her haul video, plus she claimed that the dress was see-through calling out Madeleine for gooping customers. Cue the major backlash.
Multiple users pointed out that the mislabeling could have grounds for legal issues. “I’m upset because Madeleine is not acting like a business owner,” said one TikTok user.
“The way she’s handling this turns me off from ever buying anything from her TBH… thankful for your reviews, and transparency when this all happens,” said another.
However, some fans didn’t agree with PlzDontBuyThat’s takes. “You clearly can’t see-through the dress when it is on and you proved that it is in fact silk. It’s really disgusting that you have not taken down these videos slandering the brand,” said one user.
“The chemise looks really good on you and not see-through at all,” said another.
Madeleine White responds to the pyjama drama
Madeleine did not take the call-outs lightly, commenting on PlzDontBuyThat’s try-on video of the chemise. She said, “It’s not see through. That’s why, hope this helps.”
She commented on another video, “I see you’ve made now seven videos about us and counting but for the third time just on this topic alone. The chemise is silk and was mislabeled, you received an email about this.”
Madeleine also took to the See You Tomorrow TikTok account to give her whole thoughts on the situation with two videos (one of which has been deleted).
She directly addressed the labelling controversy and stated, “We very unfortunately had a mislabeling error in production where the wrong care labels and contents tags were printed on these.”
She also challenged critics by boldly stating, “I welcome you to do a burn test if you want to prove it for yourselves.” If you are confused don’t worry so was I — apparently silk self-extinguishes when you burn it, so it’s a good test to figure out if a piece is the real deal.
Maddie was adamant about the silk quality and declared, “This, I promise you, is 92 per cent silk.”
She also didn’t shy away from acknowledging mistakes. “That’s totally all fuck up,” she admitted about the mislabeling. “We had three rounds of inspections on the garments, and truly nobody noticed. So really sorry about that.”
But her most powerful statement came when she emphasised her commitment to improvement: “I’m really passionate about it, but I would really appreciate the opportunity to try.”
She highlighted the challenges of being a women-owned business, noting that “only 3 per cent of venture capital goes to women-owned businesses. It’s really hard being a woman operating a business”.
Her closing argument was a passionate plea: “Give us a shot. If you add up our first launch and today, we’ve been on sale less than three weeks. There’s always ways to learn and improve, and I want to have a really great business.”
While it does seem like Madeleine was owning up to her mistakes, some fans were disappointed to see that she decided to switch off the comments on both videos addressing the controversy.
“How can you expect people to believe what you say if you don’t allow people to ask you questions and express their concerns,” said Brianne West in a TikTok.
So there you have it! Will See You Tomorrow see a brighter future? Or will this pyjama party fizzle out? Stay tuned, it seems like this saga is just getting started!
