Three men strike after dark in attempt to break into valuable Houston property

Thieves attempted to break into a property in a leafy Houston street at the weekend.

Three men dressed all in black were seen prowling Cunningham Gardens where houses currently cost more than £500,000.

A neighbour spotted the men around 9.45pm on Saturday and, spooked by their actions, called the police.

By the time officers arrived, the men had already scarpered but not without first trying to break into one of the properties.

Upon inspection, police discovered damage to one of the buildings with the would-be thieves unable to get in.

Inspector Laura Hamill, from the Ferguslie Park police office said: “On Saturday, October 1 around 9.45pm at Cunningham Gardens, Houston, a neighbour spotted three men acting suspiciously. They then made off in a red vehicle, not further described.

“Police attended and found damage to a property, however they did not gain entry.

“If anybody was in the area at the time and has any information about this incident, please get in touch with police on 101.”

It comes following another break-in on Friday where a 69-year-old woman was robbed while within her own home in Glamis Avenue, Elderslie.

The woman was within her home address when two men wearing balaclavas broke into the property around 1.15pm.

The thieves ransacked the house and stole property worth thousands of pounds.

Fortunately, the woman was not hurt.

Police want to hear from people who might have seen anybody acting suspiciously in the area at the time to get in touch with them.

They say they are particularly interested in learning more about a dark blue vehicle, possibly a 4x4, which may have been in the area at the time.

Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: “We are aware of the impact an incident like this can have in the community and we will be carrying out focused and highly visible patrols in the area in the coming days.

“I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to one of our officers or to call 101.”
