Three buildings next to M8 could be demolished – here's why

THREE buildings next to the M8 could be demolished to make way for Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA).

A Proposal of Application Notice has been submitted to Glasgow City Council to demolish 95-113 St George's Road in Woodlands.

The proposal is for the demolition of buildings to erect PBSA and short stay (non-term time) accommodation with ground floor units for shops, food and drink outlets and office space.

It's understood this would include demolishing the St George's Studios building, Q Club and PureGym Glasgow Charing Cross if plans are approved.

A full planning application is expected to be submitted to the council later this year.

The notice has been submitted on behalf of Iceni Projects who were previously given planning permission for the redevelopment of the St Enoch Centre.

The approved plans for 163 St George's Road (Image: Supplied) It was reported in December 2023 that plans to build a six-storey student housing development on a vacant patch of land at 163 St George's Road with plans to welcome students for the start of the 2026 academic year.

The plans stated it will accommodate 262 students in total on the corner of Grant Street.
