Thousands of Irish people in receipt of social welfare have been warned of changes they’ll need to make very soon if they want to continue receiving payments without disruption.
Many people have yet to move their accounts from KBC and Ulster Bank as both cease operations in Ireland in a matter of months.
Those who have already moved their accounts are also being reminded that they will need to update their details on the My Welfare online portal to ensure their payments arrive in the correct account.

A warning from the government on Monday read: “If you get a social welfare payment such as Child Benefit or State Pension into an Ulster Bank or KBC Bank account, you will need to make arrangements to have your payment paid into another bank, post office or credit union account.
“The easiest way for you to change your details is at MyWelfare.ie.
“To avoid disruption to your social welfare payment, please update your details before closing your Ulster Bank or KBC Bank account.”
According to their website, you can change your details by applying to change your payment method:
- After logging on, click on one of the following tiles: Parents, Family and Children or Pensions and Older People. Select Change my Payment Method and select FIND OUT MORE.
- On the next screen, select Apply Now. Read through what you will be asked to do and then click Begin application.
- Select the payment you are receiving from the Department, choosing only one scheme at a time, and click Save and Continue at the bottom to move onto the next page.
- Select Add new bank account and input your new bank account details. Click Save and Continue to move to the summary page.
- Review the payment information you have entered and read the declaration. Tick that you have read and agreed to the declaration and then click Submit.
- Your Change Payment request has now been submitted. You will receive a notification to confirm this. Please check your bank accounts and allow up to 10 days for the change to happen.
- Repeat these steps for each scheme/payment you need to change.
