A third man has been charged with murder in connection to the mass shooting that occurred after a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally last month. The incident resulted in the death of one woman and left more than two dozen people injured, according to prosecutors.
Terry J. Young, 20, is facing charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action, as announced by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office in a news release. Young is currently held on a $1 million cash bond, based on court records.
The shooting took place when Young and two other individuals allegedly engaged in gunfire following a verbal argument. Prosecutors stated that Young and his companions approached a person from another group, leading to a verbal altercation. The situation escalated when firearms were brandished, with Young reportedly firing multiple shots as captured on surveillance video.
Investigators linked Young to the crime through his social media activity, noting that he was seen wearing a distinctive backpack similar to the one observed in surveillance footage from Union Station, the scene of the shooting. Cell phone data also placed Young in the vicinity of the incident at the time it occurred.
Two other men, Lyndell Mays of Raytown and Dominic M. Miller of Kansas City, were previously charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action in connection to the same incident. They are also being held on a $1 million bond. Additionally, three juveniles are facing charges in Family Court related to the shooting.
Prosecutor Baker emphasized that all individuals involved in discharging firearms during the altercation have been apprehended. However, the investigation remains ongoing, with the possibility of further charges being brought against the suspects.
