These are the foods you should buy at Trader Joe’s if you’re trying to eat healthier—they helped me lose 100lb

Losing weight is a tedious task, but finding store-bought foods that satisfy cravings while still helping you meet your goals can make the experience less dreary. During my 100lb weight loss journey, I was grateful to have a Trader Joe’s nearby and it supplied many of my go-to meals.

I love that Trader Joe’s has plenty of convenient foods that are affordable and have welcome nutritional qualities. There are a few staples that I came to love and still really enjoy. From flavorsome frozen mac and cheese to ready-to-eat grilled chicken strips, I think these Trader Joe’s finds can help you meet your health and fitness goals.

Reduced guilt mac and cheese

I know, I know—mac and cheese might not be at the top of the diet food list, but it tops my list. The tray of frozen mac and cheese contains 12 grams of protein and is under 300 calories. I like to add steamed veggies and grilled meat on top to make a quick, easy meal.

Buffalo chicken dip

This may sound weird but trust me, it’s delicious. This creamy dip contains shredded chicken, buffalo flavoring and Greek yogurt, and it’s delicious served hot or cold. It’s low in fat, high in protein, and pairs great with veggies and crackers. This is a great alternative to high-fat sour cream or mayo-based dips, and thanks to the Greek yogurt and chicken it has a higher protein content than other dips.

Unexpected cheddar and turkey sausage egg white bites

You can eat these tasty bites for breakfast, but I find them especially good for a snack on the go. Eating a diet high in protein keeps you satiated which can help prevent overeating. That’s why a high-protein snack like this, with 17g of protein and only 180 calories in a pack of two, makes the cut.

Just grilled chicken strips

I’m not a huge fan of pre-cooked meat, but this is the exception to my rule. These flavorful grilled chicken strips don’t have the weird spongy texture that many pre-cooked and frozen meat products do. They’re great for eating on their own, adding to a salad or wrap, and can even be tossed into a stir fry or tacos. They are high in protein and easy to reheat. You can even defrost them and eat them cold if that’s your jam.

Trader Joe's apple + strawberry fruit bar

I like to use these fruit bars as my sweet treat of the day. They are made of real fruit and are low in calories.

These bars are easy to throw in your bag or keep in your car for those times when you need a little pick-me-up, and I think they're a healthier alternative to gummy bears and other high-sugar snacks. I think of them as the Trader Joe’s version of the That’s It bars that you can find at most big grocery stores.
