The Senedd's presiding officer (Llywydd) will not be attending the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla because of her republican views. Elin Jones MS issued a statement saying it was a "personal decision" and that the deputy presiding officer would attend instead.
The Plaid Cymru MS, who has been the Llywydd since 2016, confirmed in a statement: "I have taken a personal decision not to attend the Coronation. The Senedd will be represented by the Deputy Presiding Officer.
"As Llywydd I have engaged fully in all constitutional duties with the Head of State and will continue to do so. However, as a republican, I consider it is for others to celebrate a coronation. I wish the royal couple well in their years of service."

Her decision was immediately criticised by Welsh Conservative Party leader Andrew RT Davies who said: "This is disappointing. I understand the Presiding Officer has said she is a Republican, but the role is supposed to be politically neutral."
He added: "This will not do the Senedd’s reputation any good. If she wants a political role instead, perhaps the Plaid leadership would be more suitable?"
