The Range unveils orange mascot and says it's finally 'embracing' store name after calls from shoppers

The Range has announced it's "embracing" its store name after multiple calls from shoppers. The popular variety retailer cheekily took to Instagram on April Fool's Day to introduce its new mascot as the debate over what the store is called continues.

It comes after a shopper pointed out in 2020 that the budget store's well-known blue logo also features an "R" in an orange circle, questioning whether The Range is actually called The Orange. Since then The Range has clarified multiple times that it's not named after the citrus fruit, but many customers have admitted they simply can't unsee it.

In case you missed it, the original post read: "So I blew my own mind today. I realised that the range has an R in an orange circle as their logo, but I can't unsee it as saying anything other than orange now? Has it been called the orange all along and we've not noticed? Honestly I am baffled. Someone please explain this to me and restore my faith in humanity."

At the time The Range told its social media followers: "We've received so many messages about this viral post... it's taken you all a while to notice. We do love the colour O-Range but all jokes aside we are officially called 'The Range'."

The Range was forced to address the confusion again more recently, joking that it had a "range of names and a range of products." You can read more on what reignited the debate here.

But now the high street store has joked that it's fully prepared to "embrace" its beloved nickname with a new mascot - an orange. Posting on Instagram on April Fool's Day the store told its 1.2 million Instagram followers: "Captain Range has a new friend, say hello to Ollie the O-RANGE. We're embracing our nickname with an all-new mascot. Tell us what you think!"

Shoppers quickly flooded the comment section with one writing: "Love it! Happy April Fools day guys!" While another added: "This should not be an April Fool." And a third said: "Brilliant, but not falling for it,"

It comes after Dunelm was also recently forced to address the change to its store name as shoppers reminisced on Twitter. You can read more on this, here. For more what's on and shopping stories from WalesOnline, you can get our newsletter here.
