The Queen's mobility difficulties mean she is now "resting" a lot more as members of the Royal Family visit her at Balmoral. The 96-year-old monarch was last seen publicly at Aberdeen airport on July 21, where she landed for her annual summer holiday at Balmoral.
She is expected to stay there, as is tradition, until October, and is understood to be "carefully considering" if she is fit enough to attend next week's Braemar Gathering, which will go ahead for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, reports the Daily Mirror. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children are believed to have visited the Queen last week and The Earl and Countess of Wessex and their two children - Lady Louise and Viscount James - have reportedly been up to Scotland to visit Her Majesty too, as have her sons Prince Charles and Prince Andrew.
A Daily Mail source said that the Queen's mobility had taken "a change in the past few weeks" and added: "The Queen’s condition is not what you would call ideal, but then Her Majesty is 96 after all." Prince Charles is said to be making regular morning visits to Balmoral.
The reports of the Queen's declining mobility follow on from the news broken earlier this week that she would not be travelling to London for a meeting with the next prime minister on September 5.
Instead, either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak will visit her in Scotland, with talks expected to take place this week to decide where that meeting will be staged north of the border.
