The Game Awards organisers have announced this year’s nominated video games across 29 categories.
While they use a panel of journalists and influencers to pick the nominations and to determine the lion’s share of the results, you can also vote yourself.
Audience votes contribute 10 per cent of the final tally. There is also an audience-vote-led Player’s Voice category consisting of three rounds of voting, beginning on December 2.
Voting closes at 2am on Thursday, December 12, just hours before the show. The event takes place in the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. Thanks to the time difference between the US and the UK, the event begins at 12.30am on Friday, December 13 here — and you can watch it online.
It will be streamed on YouTube, in 4K, Twitch and Facebook Live. You might want to have a quick nap before it begins, though, as last year’s show lasted three and a half hours.
The Games Awards were established in 2014 by Geoff Keighley, a prominent video game journalist and producer, to recognise the year's best video games, studios, and creators.
Which are some of the notable nominees this year? Balatro has secured an impressive five nominations, including Game of the Year. It’s a remarkable achievement for what was largely a one-person development process.
The organisers also had to confirm just before the nominations were announced that DLC and expansions would be allowed in primary categories. This opened the door to Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. This Elden Ring expansion has won four nominations, including Game of the Year and Best RPG.
