Tesco shoppers warned over 'safety risk' as three food items recalled

Tesco has recalled three 'Free From' snacks as they have been found to contain gluten - something which isn't mentioned on the label. The Food Standards Agency, explained: "Tesco is recalling Tesco Free From Onion Rings, Tesco Free From Cheese Flavour Balls, and Tesco Free From Bacon Rashers because they contain gluten which is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to gluten."

They continued: "If you have bought the above products and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to gluten, do not eat them. Instead return them to the store from where they were purchased for a full refund. For more information please contact Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555."

The Express reports that the FSA has also assured customers that Tesco is taking rapid action to ensure safety, adding: "Tesco is recalling the above products from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers.

"These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."

The notice itself, read: "We have been made aware that some packs of Tesco Free From Crisps 150g, may have Gluten present in the product. This is not declared on the packaging and could therefore pose a safety risk to those people with an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

"Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy or intolerance to Gluten, return the affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."

The supermarket also apologised to customers for the inconvenience, urging consumers to contact Customer Services on 0800 505 555.

The FSA states that food recalls take place due to problems with products which mean that they should not have been sold in the first place. The item is subsequently 'withdrawn' from shelves and recalled after an err is identified.

The FSA went on: "Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert."

Here are the details of the items which have recently been recalled by Tesco.
