A 17-year-old from southern Tasmania has died after drinking tea brewed with the heads of poppies.
Police say the teenager was found dead in his home around 6pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
Inspector John Arnold says the death is a tragic outcome for his family and friends.
Police say with the poppy harvest approaching, it is timely to warn that ingesting any poppy-based narcotics can be lethal.
The theft of poppy heads is a serious offence.
Investigations into the circumstances of the teen's death are continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
