A teenager was assaulted and robbed by a gang of youths in an unprovoked attack in Paisley town centre.
The 16-year-old needed hospital treatment following the terrifying ordeal, which took place in a car park near Mill Street on Wednesday night.
The youth was walking alone in the area around 9pm when they were pounced on by the group of young thugs who also stole property from them before fleeing the scene.
A concerned member of the public who witnessed the unprovoked attack contacted police.
Officers in Paisley are now appealing for information to trace the suspects – who they say were not known to the victim.
In particular, Paisley CID wants information pertaining to two individuals who are said to have been involved in the attack.
They say they are looking for information regarding a white male youth, around 5ft 7in tall, who has short ginger hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and grey jogging bottoms at the time.
A white female youth is also wanted in connection with the incident, police say she has blonde shoulder-length hair, is of slim build, and was wearing a dark tank top and black jogging bottoms.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV in the area and are asking anybody who might have been driving through the area at the time to check their dash-cam footage.
A spokesperson from the Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division said: “We are looking to speak with anybody who might have witnessed this incident that saw a 16-year-old assaulted by a number of youths. As a result of the assault, the young person had to attend hospital where they received treatment. This was a sustained assault and there was property stolen from the young person during this attack.
“This was at a busy junction and so we’d ask anybody who was in the area at the time, anybody that might have dashcam footage, or anybody that lives nearby, please get in touch via 101 or contact Crimstoppers if they wish to share information anonymously.”
