Tasmania's Liberal government has lost a second minister in less than a month, with Jane Howlett relinquishing duties for personal reasons.
Premier Peter Gutwein said Ms Howlett would remain in parliament as an upper house member.
He said Ms Howlett made her decision after the death of her brother last week.
"This has been a very difficult decision for Jane, and she has my wholehearted support during this challenging time," Mr Gutwein said on Friday.
Ms Howlett had held the racing, women, small business, hospitality and events, and disability services portfolios.
She was elected to the Legislative Council in 2018 in the southeast seat of Prosser.
Her standdown comes after former education minister Sarah Courtney quit politics on February 10, citing a desire to spend more time with family.
Ms Courtney had copped criticism for taking leave in the lead-up to school resuming and holidaying in France, where she caught COVID-19.
Ms Howlett's decision to step back comes after a cabinet re-shuffle last week.
