On Sunday evening, a disturbing incident unfolded in the city of Derbent, located in Russia's Dagestan province. Reports from the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs Press Service indicate that both a synagogue and a church were targeted in a violent attack using automatic weapons.

The situation escalated as the synagogue caught fire, with large flames and thick smoke emanating from multiple windows on at least one floor of the building. Tragically, at least one police officer lost their life in the attack, while another officer sustained injuries, as confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan.

As of now, there is no confirmation regarding the presence of any parishioners inside either religious establishment at the time of the assault. Authorities are actively working to gather more information and ascertain the extent of casualties resulting from this heinous act.

The perpetrators behind this violent act remain unidentified, and there is a lack of information on their current whereabouts or motives. The community is left in shock and disbelief as they grapple with the aftermath of this senseless violence.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety and security of all residents in the region. The attack on these places of worship is a stark reminder of the need for unity and solidarity in the face of such atrocities.
