Sydney Train Commuters Experience ‘Significant Delays’ Thanks To An Error At Central Station

Sydney train commuters have had one hell of a morning as major delays and cancellations forced scores of people to be late to work.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, more than a third of all services were cancelled from Burwood between 8am and 9am this morning, and the trains that were running experienced “extensive delays”.

The T1, T2, T3, T8 and T9 train lines have all been affected, with the most brutal delays being copped by the T9 Northern and T1 North Shore and Western lines.

What in the land of flying fuck caused such mass chaos, you ask? Well, according to the transport for NSW’s rail operations director Jas Tumber, it was all due to a broken rail at Central Station.

“Because it is a significant broken rail, we are having to cut a section of the rail out and replace it this morning, which as you can imagine, logistically is very complex to do whilst we’re still operating the network,” he told 2GB.

As reported by news.com.au, Uber fares “exploded” during the chaos, as trips between Burwood and Central Station jacked up to around $70 as of 8.30am. Although the fares “quickly dropped down”.

It comes after a deal between the NSW government and Uber was struck to limit surge pricing when Sydney transport goes haywire (which, let’s face it, is often!).

It is unclear when the issue will be resolved, just keen an eye on Transport NSW. Meanwhile commuters are urged to take alternate transport to and from the city, including buses, the shiny new Metro, etc.
