BOSTON — A swastika has been found spray-painted on a sidewalk in a town near Boston, according to police who are investigating “this insidious form of hate.”
The anti-Semitic graffiti was discovered painted on the sidewalk in the area of Redington Street and Forest Avenue on Friday afternoon in Swampscott, about 15 miles north of Boston, police said.
The swastika was spray-painted with white paint on the sidewalk, along with a nearby vehicle that had a white line painted down the side of it.
Swampscott Police are now asking residents in the area to review any home camera footage from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to see if police can use the video surveillance to identify any suspects. Evidence was recovered at the scene that could help identify the suspect or suspects, according to police.
“No community is immune from this insidious form of hate,” Anti-Defamation League New England tweeted. “We call on the community to join us in condemning this hate and assisting @SwampscottPD.
“Our collective response in calling out this act of hate can be a powerful message that antisemitism has no home in Swampscott,” ADL New England added.
The Swampscott Police Department’s civil rights officer has contacted local religious partners to make them aware of this incident.
Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call the Swampscott Police Department at 781-595-1111.
