Sustainable fashion movement to hit The Trafford Centre as part of two day extravaganza

Recycling, reinventing and refashioning are key as The Trafford Centre focuses on sustainability with a two day fashion extravaganza.

The Trafford Centre will be transformed across Friday September 30 to Saturday October 1, with a core focus to inspire shoppers on ways in which to reinvent their wardrobe while championing brands that are taking steps to become more environmentally conscious.

Pre-loved clothes saw a huge surge in popularity after this year's Love Island contestants embraced the trend in the popular ITV show. The event follows on from Oxfam’s Second Hand September - a sustainable style challenge to encourage people to buy only second-hand items for 30 days in the month of September. A pop up store selling recycled cashmere is already in place at The Trafford Centre until October 2.

To encourage and educate consumers in the Northwest and beyond on the sustainable fashion movement, during the two days, The Trafford Centre will come alive with spectacular fashion shows and dance fusion performances while showcasing key Autumn and winter trends from the centre’s vast array of fashion retailers.

The public can also expect pre-loved fashion sales from we are second life while ticketed live expert talks will be hosted in-store by Selfridges and styling session hosted by John Lewis, with support from charity partner, Smart Works, championing sustainable initiatives.

We are second life fashion organise vintage pop-up shops across the UK, encouraging consumers to shop sustainably and rethink the future of fashion. They will take over The Orient space offering consumers the opportunity to purchase pre-loved, vintage fashion selling its clothes by weight.

Rob Lorrimer, Event Manager at we are second life fashion said: “What could be better than great fashion at small prices, all in the effort to help save our planet. We are delighted to partner with Trafford Centre on its refashioned event.”

Selfridges' Project Earth - its evergreen sustainability strategy - aims to change the way we shop and the way it does business. Built on three themes; transitioning to more sustainable materials, exploring new business models and challenging the mindsets of its partners, customers and teams, Project Earth is underpinned by Selfridges’ commitment to a net-zero future.

As part of the wider ‘refashioned’ event, Selfridges will host three ‘in conversation with’ live talks focused on its Materials, Models and Mindsets pillars. This interactive event will be open to the public to purchase tickets.

Zoe Inman, Centre Director at Trafford Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting a two day fashion extravaganza at Trafford Centre; an opportunity to showcase the incredible range of fashion brands on offer, whilst highlighting brands that are championing sustainable initiatives.

"The centre will come alive with fantastic entertainment, inspiring shows, and informative talks, whilst also giving the public the opportunity to purchase pre-loved items – we are looking forward to delivering another huge-scale event that continues to escape the ordinary.”
