Supermarket opening times on Bank Holiday Monday for Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and more

May 1 marks the Early May Bank Holiday with this one the first of three in May owing to the King's Coronation and the Spring Bank Holiday later on in the month.

A three-day weekend means extra time off work for some of us but supermarket workers will still be required to work today despite it being a bank holiday.

Different supermarkets have different rules on opening times when it comes to bank holidays, with some larger stores shutting earlier and smaller shops staying open to allow people to get any last-minute items they may have missed off their shopping lists.

With that in mind, it's handy to know which stores are open and which ones are shut. We've compiled a list detailing the supermarket opening times for the so-called 'big six' major UK supermarkets - Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury's - as well as M&S and Waitrose.

Here are the opening times for these supermarkets today on Bank Holiday Monday:

Asda

The majority of Asda stores will remain open from 8am to 8pm today. However, some may change their opening hours because of the bank holiday, with people urged to check the website for details about specific stores.

Sainsbury's

In England and Wales, Sainsbury's superstores will stay open for less time on May 1. Most say they will open at 8am and shut 12 hours later at 8pm.

Sainsbury's Local stores, however, should open around 7am and stay open much later until around 10pm or 11pm. You can check your local store's opening times here.

Waitrose

A lot of Waitrose stores are set to shut at around 6pm today. However, like with the other major supermarkets, opening times will vary depending on location and people are being urged to check the Waitrose website for more information about store opening hours.

Tesco

Most Tesco stores are set to open at 8am today. They will then shut 10 hours later at 6pm but some may stay open a couple of hours later until 8pm. Express stores' opening hours will vary. You can find out more information on opening times here.

Lidl

Following the trend of other supermarkets, Lidl stores are set to be open from around 8am to 8pm. These times may vary though and you should check on the Lidl website to be absolutely sure whether your local store is open or not.

Aldi

Just like Lidl, Aldi says its stores will be open from 8am to 8pm. Again though, these times vary depending on location. More information will be available on Aldi's website.

Morrisons

Morrisons stores are set to open at 7am today, with most then shutting 13 hours later at 8pm. You can check the Morrisons website for more information about specific opening times as these may vary depending on location.

Marks and Spencer (M&S)

M&S has confirmed its foodhalls will be open today. Opening times will vary though and you can check for opening times on the M&S website.
