Parts of south Wales have seen a series of sunshine, hail, thunder, lighting and torrential rain all in one day. Cardiff and Swansea have seen sunny intervals change into heavy showers, the occasional thunder and lighting and even hail on Saturday, June 25.
Meanwhile, places such as Porthcawl, Monmouth and St David's were said to be experiencing mostly cloudy and light showers. It seems that Wales has seen the last of the hot and sunny weather we have experienced in recent days - for a while at least. Along with the unsettled and mixed weather, according to the Met Office, the temperature was around 18° in the capital, 16° in Swansea, and at its coolest in the Newtown area, at around 13°.
Our video shows hail beating down in Cardiff on Saturday afternoon and PureGym on Western Avenue was forced to temporarily close after heavy rain resulted in flooding in part of the club. And while it was still cloudy in the Welsh capital early Saturday evening, there were bright blue skies less than 30 miles down the road in the seaside town of Porthcawl making it perfect to get the BBQ out.
Many took to social media to share their experiences of the thunderstorm in Cardiff. Steve Hood on Twitter said: "Why when I was in Bristol earlier was it glorious sunshine and now I’m home in Cardiff it feels like I’m in the middle of a thunderstorm".
Howard Batey said: "Looking out of the window at this huge thunderstorm that's just hit us unexpectedly, I'm wondering if anyone has a spare Ark they're not using...?"
The weird weather is not set to end anytime soon however. BBC has forecasted that Saturday evening is set to see the odd shower linger in Wales. Overnight, areas of thicker cloud will spread in from the west and push in further heavy showers. It is set to be a windy night.
Thunderstorms had been forecast for Wales during the week. On Wednesday, June 22, the Met Office had issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Monmouthshire, Powys and Wrexham.
Throughout next week it is set to remain unsettled with further showers and longer periods of rain, though some sunny spells as well, according to the Met Office. It will be windy at times, but temperatures around average for late June.
