A large grass fire at Stoke Park Estate this afternoon (August 11) was caused by an unattended barbecue. It is the third fire Bristol Live has reported on in recent days to have been caused by a barbecue.
Over the weekend, a blaze at the Downs was believed to have been caused by one while yesterday (August 10) another barbecue was to blame for undergrowth catching fire on Stapleton Road, Easton. And then today a patch of land by The Dower House - also know as the Yellow House - was set alight by one.
The flames were visible from the M32 as plumes of smoke rose into the sky. In a statement, Avon Fire and Rescue Service described it as a "large grass fire".

It said: "Crews from Temple and Kingswood were called to reports of a grass fire at 16:25. On arrival, crews found a large grass fire affecting an area of approximately 150 metres by 100 metres.
"Using two high pressure hose reels and grass beaters, crews were able to extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze was determined to have been an unattended barbecue."
And it added on Twitter: "During this period of extreme #heatwave, please do not use disposable barbecues or light any kind of deliberate fire. Grass fires can be devastating."
As temperatures continue to soar, several fires have been reported in the Bristol area. A four-day amber warning for 'extreme heat' is now in place across large parts of southern England and Wales - including the South West. In Bristol, temperatures could reach 35C later this week.
